Regarding cases of leptospirosis, the Ministry of Health indicated that zero were confirmed, with a cumulative total of 35 probable cases and an incidence of 0.36 per 100,000 inhabitants. Malaria notification also continues to decline, with an incidence of 10.16. Four new confirmed cases were reported, for 980 until week 47. Likewise, a new case of COVID-19 was reported, placing the total for the year at 6,925 and an incidence of 71.79.
Indicators
Regarding maternal deaths, the bulletin issued by the Directorate of Epidemiology indicates that at week 47, two maternal deaths were reported corresponding to Haitian nationals. The cumulative number of maternal deaths is 153 deaths by 2024. Compared to last year, 2023, 185 deaths have been reported to this date, indicating a reduction in this indicator.
Of infant deaths, 35 new cases are registered, with a total of 1,933 so far this year. Last year to date, 2,773 infant deaths had been reported, which reflects a reduction in these cases of deaths.
Infections
The Ministry reported that the incidence of Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) is monitored through epidemiological surveillance, a situation that is kept under control in the country. From January to October of this year, the HAIs presented a variable situation but were under control. The epidemiological bulletin offered information indicating the cumulative incidence in 2024 is low.
