Santiago merchants expect a double reactivation of the local economy

Santiago – The merchants of this city hope that the central government and the private sector will deliver the Christmas bonus and the 13th salary so that the economy can be reactivated and reflected in the businesses.

“It is our wish, to see that when people start receiving the double salary they can visit the various commercial establishments and buy clothes or household items they need for Christmas and New Year,” said the president of the Business Association of Downtown Santiago (Asecensa), José Octavio Reinoso.

Reinoso said he is confident that the economy will be reactivated since last Black Friday was totally dark and not as favorable for commerce as last year.

“If we compare last year’s Black Friday sales were weak this year. We need to see more economic movement in the streets,” he indicated.

He explained that sales were reduced by 25% this year, which he attributes to the country’s economic recession.

Reinoso asked the Government to establish policies to reactivate the economy, stabilize the exchange rate, and improve the purchasing power of the people.
