New York.- Juan Soto and the New York Mets have reportedly agreed to a historic 15-year, $765 million contract, setting a new record for Major League Baseball deals. This surpasses Shohei Ohtani’s 10-year, $700 million contract with the Dodgers, previously the largest in MLB history. Soto’s deal includes no deferred payments and features a $75 million signing bonus.
The Mets’ offer, averaging $51 million annually, outbid the Yankees, who proposed $760 million over 16 years. Soto, 26, cemented his status as the offseason’s top free agent following an extraordinary 2024 season with the Yankees, where he hit a career-high 41 homers and posted a 7.9 bWAR. He also excelled in the postseason, with a .327 batting average and four home runs, including a pivotal shot in the ALCS.
Known for his historic consistency at the plate, Soto boasts a career .285/.421/.532 slash line and a 160 OPS+ through age 25, ranking among legends like Ty Cobb and Mickey Mantle. The deal aligns with the Mets’ ambitions to build a powerhouse roster for years to come.
