Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Health announced that the Dominican Republic has been recognized by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) for its effective management of dengue, even as cases rise across the region. Health Minister Víctor Atallah credited the success to strong communication strategies and active community involvement in controlling the disease.
According to the Epidemiological Bulletin for Week 48, the country has reported 1,271 dengue cases this year, with an incidence rate of 12.90. This marks a 63.58% reduction compared to the same period in 2023, which saw 3,490 cases.
Preventive measures, including the “Let’s Beat Dengue!” campaign with the slogan Eliminate, Clean, and Cover Up, have been instrumental in mobilizing the population to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and maintain clean environments. Additionally, the National Plan for the Prevention and Control of Dengue has focused on integrated vector management and community engagement to sustain progress in disease prevention.
