Antinarcotics agents seize 219 packages on a boat

Santo Domingo.- National Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) agents seized 219 packets of a white powder, presumably cocaine or heroin, on a boat from South America which was sailing along the coast of the of San Pedro de Macoris province.

Agency spokesman Miguel Medina said the drug was found inside 11 sacks on the vessel with registration number BPE 2443761 SDG. He said that among the members of the alleged drug ring were Dominicans, Colombians and Venezuelans, who operated large shipments of drug through fishing boats on a route that included South America and the Dominican eastern coast.

During the operation, agents arrested a man nicknamed El Cojo, 33, who lives in the La Punta neighborhood, in San Pedro de Macoris, while another man managed to escape by jumping into the Higuamo river.
