Dominican Republic receives international equipment certification

Santo Domingo – The Ministry of Health received the international certification that classifies Type 1 Mobile Emergency Teams (EMTs), granted by the World Health Organization and the Pan American Health Organization World Health Organization (WHO/PAHO)

This recognition reinforces the country’s capacity to respond to emergencies and disasters with timely and quality primary care.

The Minister of Health, Víctor Atallah, spoke of the Dominican Government’s commitment to this certification, highlighting that it strengthens its capacity to coordinate effective responses aligned with international best practices. “The work carried out by the EMTs reflects the country’s preparedness and professionalism to face emergencies, protecting the lives and health of the affected communities,” said the minister.

For several months, the Directorate of Risk Management of the Ministry of Health, headed by Dr. Gina Estrella Ramia, and the Emergency Operations Center (COE) worked on preparing documents and implementing standards required for certification before its award, WHO experts from Geneva and other regions evaluated the logistical, operational, and technical aspects of the Dominican EMT. The evaluation included the presence of the Minister of Health.
