Chicken’s price too high? Eat chayote: Industry & Commerce

Santo Domingo.- To deal with the spiraling price of chicken Industry and Commerce minister José de Castillo on Sunday urged Dominicans to be "be creative, eat fish, chayote," and other alternatives of low-priced foods.

"We’re worried about the increase taking place in this product, because it constitutes a key element in the diet of Dominicans. If one product increases its price, replace it with another that may be a source of protein,” the official said.

Castillo, speaking during the Congress of Dominican Republic’s National Merchants Federation (FENACERD), said the Agriculture Ministry should adopt the corrective actions to “normalize the situation in the country.”
