Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Government, through the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM), has signed a memorandum of understanding with the French Development Agency (AFD) to initiate a three-year technical cooperation program supporting a sustainable and equitable energy transition. The initiative aligns with the country’s climate commitments and aims to develop a cleaner, more resilient energy system.
The program, funded by AFD with non-reimbursable resources, will run from 2025 to 2027. Technical experts will implement initiatives under the supervision of a steering committee led by MEM, which will meet biannually to monitor progress. Key priorities include modernizing energy infrastructure and enhancing the efficiency of hydroelectric dams, a critical resource for clean energy generation in the Dominican Republic.
Energy Minister Joel Santos highlighted the value of AFD’s technical support in advancing the nation’s clean energy goals, while AFD director Virginie Díaz reaffirmed their commitment to collaborating with Dominican energy agencies to achieve sustainable development.
