Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) has initiated the second phase of its “Awareness for Life, Christmas and New Year 2024-2025” operation, starting Monday, December 30, at 2:00 p.m. The initiative aims to prevent incidents and respond to emergencies as citizens travel across the country during the holiday season. This phase will run until Wednesday, January 1, at 6:00 p.m.
The operation involves 47,422 personnel, including first responders, medical teams, military and police officers, and volunteers. Key measures include the deployment of 1,263 assistance posts along major roads and highways, as well as 570 ambulances, 5 vehicle extraction trucks, 71 rescue units, 19 mobile workshops, and 3 helicopters. These resources will be strategically positioned to address traffic accidents, alcohol and food poisoning, and other emergencies.
To enhance safety, the National Institute of Transit and Land Transport (INTRANT) has restricted the circulation of heavy vehicles without permits from December 30 to January 2, 2025. COE Director Juan Manuel Méndez García urged citizens to follow safety protocols, reflecting on the importance of gratitude and setting goals for the new year.
