Tigres defeat Águilas to dominate Round Robin

Santiago.- The Tigres del Licey, using six pitchers, secured a commanding 7-0 victory over the Águilas Cibaeñas at Cibao Stadium during the Round Robin phase of the 2024-2025 Dominican professional baseball tournament, dedicated to José León Asensio. The Tigres now lead the standings with a 3-1 record, followed by the Escogido Lions and Eastern Stars at 2-2, while the Águilas trail at 1-3.

The Tigres’ offense struck early, scoring two runs in the first inning with key hits from Emilio Bonifacio, Miguel Andújar, and Jorge Alfaro. They added two more in the third, capitalizing on a balk and a sacrifice fly, and extended their lead with home runs by Troy Johnston and Jorge Alfaro in the fifth and seventh innings. Johnston, who had struggled earlier in the series, delivered a standout performance with a home run, double, single, and two RBIs.

Pitcher AJ Puckett earned the win in relief, while Águilas starter Teddy Stankiewicz took the loss after allowing two earned runs in 1.2 innings. Despite hits from Harold Ramirez and Christopher Morel, the Águilas’ offense struggled against the Tigres’ bullpen, which combined for a shutout.
