DNCD seizes 766 cocaine packages in Pedernales

Santo Domingo.- Agents of the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) seized 766 packages of suspected cocaine during a major joint operation in Pedernales province. The operation, conducted by air, land, and sea, was initiated after intelligence reports revealed an attempt by individuals aboard a speedboat to smuggle narcotics into Dominican territory.

The suspects fled into a wooded area near Laguna de Oviedo after their boat ran aground. Authorities launched an extensive search involving Air Force helicopters, DNCD reaction teams, the Navy, and the Army, ultimately arresting six men—four Dominicans and two Haitians. They also recovered 26 sacks containing the suspected drugs, a Colt M-16 rifle, a 28-foot speedboat with powerful engines, and other evidence, including fuel containers.

The DNCD and the Public Prosecutor’s Office are continuing investigations to identify and apprehend additional individuals involved in the attempted drug trafficking operation. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to denying criminal organizations access to the nation’s air, sea, and land routes through coordinated interdiction efforts.
