Police kill suspected felon in shootout

Santiago Rodriguez — An alleged criminal died, and two agents of the National Police, attached to the Criminal Investigations Division (Dicrim), were wounded in a shooting confrontation during follow-up work in the community of La Leonor de Thomas, Santiago Rodriguez province.

The police report indicates that Edwin Ventura Noé, alias “Longaniza”, of Haitian nationality, who, according to the authorities, was a known antisocial, died in the action after being actively sought for multiple crimes, including robberies and homicides.

The wounded agents are Sergeant Hairo Mateo Morrillo and Private José Octavio Jiménez Peña, who have injuries to a leg and a hand, respectively.

According to the police report, upon noticing the presence of the agents, Ventura opened fire against them, forcing them to repel the aggression. During the confrontation, the foreign national barricaded himself in the bathroom of a house and was wounded. He was taken to a medical center, where he later died.

Among Edwin Rafael Ventura’s antecedents are the homicide of Juan Carlos Colón Cabrera, alias “Bojote”, and the injuries caused to Awilda María Rodríguez Rodríguez and Pamela Javier, in an incident which occurred on July 29, 2024 in the main street of El Tamarindo neighborhood, Rafey sector.

He also had warrants numbers 05063, AJ0013060-2024, and 06241-2021 against him for robberies.
