Key infrastructure projects to boost tourism in Samaná

Samaná, DR.- Key infrastructure projects are underway in Samaná, aimed at enhancing the region’s tourism appeal. The Ministry of Tourism has spearheaded efforts to improve roads in Arroyo Barril and initiate new developments in Santa Bárbara, Samaná, with a total investment exceeding 125 million Dominican pesos.

In Arroyo Barril, Collado unveiled the asphalt paving of 6.44 kilometers of streets, alongside the construction of 2.30 kilometers of gutters, 0.50 kilometers of curbs, as well as a new sewage system and 24 drainage units. The total cost of the project is over 63 million pesos.

The Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) aims to implement effective planning and management of tourism destinations, ensuring sustainability and competitiveness through public-private sector integration. Collado emphasized that these infrastructure improvements are part of MITUR’s ongoing efforts to enhance the region’s tourism offerings.

“The Ministry of Tourism has made a significant investment in Samaná, one of the country’s most beautiful tourist destinations. These newly reconstructed streets in Arroyo Barril are a long-awaited request from the local community. Later, we will begin two additional important projects in Santa Bárbara,” Collado stated. He further praised President Luis Abinader’s support, which he believes has contributed to Samaná’s rise as a major tourism destination.

Among the streets reconstructed in Arroyo Barril are Franklin, Colasa, Nino, Las Mercedes, Lin, Cancha, Álvaro Lino, Sonia Fermín, Coven, Sandy, Moreno, and Los Cuadrosos.

Following the inauguration, Collado visited Santa Bárbara de Samaná, where he officially launched the reconstruction of two key public spaces: the Juan Pablo Duarte Central Park and the Glorieta Park. These projects will cost approximately 62 million pesos.

The Juan Pablo Duarte Central Park project involves the renovation of 5,322 square meters of land, including 1,058 square meters of sidewalks and 521 linear meters of curbs. The investment also covers the installation of new lighting, urban furniture, and accessibility ramps. The total cost of this project is 42.2 million pesos.

In the Glorieta Park, a complete renovation will take place across an area of 2,170 square meters, with an investment of 19.6 million pesos. This project will restore the existing gazebo, improve walkways, add new street furniture, and install lighting. The park’s surroundings will also be enhanced with better connectivity to nearby tourist attractions, including the Santa Bárbara Church and the Samaná waterfront.
