Army refers drivers arrested for transporting undocumented Haitians to court

Elías Piña.- The Dominican Republic Army continues its operations to control illegal migration and related crimes in border regions, detaining two drivers and intercepting undocumented Haitian immigrants in Elías Piña, Montecristi, and Valverde provinces.

In Las Matas, Elías Piña, authorities stopped a red Honda jeep driven by Edward Guerrero Hernández, who was transporting 13 Haitian nationals without proper immigration status. In Montecristi, another patrol apprehended Melvin de Jesús Cruz, driving a minibus carrying four Haitian men, two concealed in the luggage compartment.

Additionally, a black Mitsubishi Montero Sport jeep was abandoned in Mao, Valverde, with 21 Haitian men onboard after the driver fled upon spotting military personnel.

The detained drivers will face legal proceedings, while the undocumented immigrants have been transferred to local forts and will be handed over to the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) for repatriation.
