Colonial Zone hosts “Cabalgata por la Patria” celebration

Santo Domingo.- The Duarte Institute celebrated the 212th anniversary of Juan Pablo Duarte’s birth with the “Cabalgata por la Patria” (Cavalcade for the Homeland) in the Colonial Zone. This annual event showcased the historical significance of horses in the country’s independence struggles, drawing hundreds of spectators to witness a vibrant equestrian parade.

The procession began at Independencia Park, traversing historic streets and landmarks, including Mariano Cestero, Arzobispo Nouel, and the Altar of the Fatherland, where it concluded with a floral tribute. The Army band performed the national anthem, and speeches were delivered by Wilson Gómez Ramírez, president of the Duartiano Institute; Alexis Thomson of the Dominican Paso Horse Association; and Manuel Alberto Gómez, president ad vitam of the Higüeyano Paso Horse Association.

Gómez Ramírez emphasized the event’s cultural and historical significance, calling it a tribute to Duarte’s legacy and a reaffirmation of national values. He underscored the importance of defending Dominican sovereignty, linking it to the enduring spirit of unity inspired by Duarte and the Trinitarians in the country’s fight for independence in 1844.
