Santo Domingo.- National Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) director Julio César Souffront on Thursday said confessed drug trafficker Roberto Peña (Chupa) will be charged with slander in the next few hours, for declaring that in his dwelling 132 packages of cocaine were seized and not 14 as the DNCD reported during a raid on September 10, in Soto Arriba, Higuey.
He said the DNCD filed the charges against the recognized international drug trafficker, "because we’re compelled to uphold morality, total compliance with the law and the tenacious work of the DNCD against organized crime represented by this individual who seeks to tarnish us today."
In a statement, the DNCD said its entire staffs is deeply dismayed with the acquiescence that some sectors have given to statements from a “confessed drug trafficker,” seeking no more than to confuse society with falsehoods. "We don’t rule out that it’s in fact a ruse to shakedown the real owner of the stash of 14 packages of cocaine and discredit the agency at the same time."
