Karla Sofía Gascón cites Zoe Saldaña in racism defense

New York.- Spanish actress Karla Sofía Gascón is at the center of controversy over resurfaced social media posts containing racist and politically incorrect remarks. Gascón insists that “most” of the posts are fake but does not specify which ones are authentic.

In an interview with CNN en Español, she expressed frustration at being “judged and condemned without a trial” and stated that she will not withdraw from her Oscar nomination for Best Actress in Emilia Pérez, a film she dedicated years to.

According to Efe, Gascón revealed she had spoken with co-stars Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña, denying any offensive tweets directed at them. Gascón defended herself by claiming she has always supported marginalized communities and criticized racism. However, she indirectly acknowledged writing some of the posts, offering apologies for her “ways” but not for specific statements.

Despite the backlash, she described her performance in Emilia Pérez as “wonderful” and suggested that the controversy is an attempt to undermine her nomination. She remains firm in her stance, stating that she has “nothing to hide” and sees no reason to step down.
