Three thousand red mangroves planted in Bani to protect coastal ecosystem
Baní, DR.- Ricoh Dominicana, in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment and the Dominican Navy, planted 3,000 red mangroves in Las Calderas, Bani, as part of a reforestation campaign. The planting took place near the Navy Nautical Club, an area well-suited for mangrove growth due to its flooded conditions and the species’ aerial root system.
Marcos Chalas, representing the Ministry of the Environment alongside Cristiana de la Rosa, emphasized the ecological importance of red mangroves, noting their role in preventing coastal erosion, filtering seawater, and supporting marine biodiversity. The initiative aligns with efforts to preserve vital coastal ecosystems and protect local communities from environmental threats.
Ricoh Dominicana reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability, encouraging other organizations and the public to participate in similar efforts. Marketing specialist Rosanna Rodríguez highlighted the role of mangrove forests in mitigating climate change by capturing carbon and maintaining ecological balance.
