Cardiology Society warns of high cardiovascular disease rates in the Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Society of Cardiology emphasized that cardiovascular disease remains a leading cause of death due to unhealthy lifestyles. Its president, Dr. Rosa Cueto, warned that many Dominicans continue to consume excessive fats, sugars, and processed foods, increasing their risk of heart-related illnesses.

Dr. Cueto highlighted hypertension, obesity, and stress as major contributing factors, noting that over 30% of Dominicans suffer from high blood pressure. She urged citizens to adopt healthier habits, including better nutrition, regular exercise, and stress management, to reduce cardiovascular risks.

She made these remarks during Pedalea por tu Corazón, a cycling event promoting heart health, where over 500 participants took to the streets of the National District. The society is organizing multiple awareness walks throughout February in observance of Heart Month.
