Huchi Lora denounces slander campaign over USAID accusations
Santo Domingo.- Veteran journalist Huchi Lora rejected accusations linking him and colleagues to alleged funding from the U.S. agency USAID, calling it a politically motivated smear campaign. He affirmed that in his 58-year career, he has never received money from USAID or any entity other than his employers, dismissing the claims as baseless and originating from a post on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
Lora alleged that the defamation campaign is orchestrated by individuals involved in corruption cases who fear legal consequences. He pointed out that these accusations have been amplified by media controlled by politicians facing justice. He also revealed that during a televised discussion of the accusations, one participant issued a death threat against him: “Huchi Lora: we don’t need you alive.” Though undeterred, he noted the threat for the record.
Recalling past smear attempts, Lora mentioned a leaked government message ordering social media attacks against him. Despite ongoing threats, he vowed to continue his journalistic work, stating, “If it has to be, so be it.”
