Dominican Republic strengthens role as biomedical hub in the Americas

Washington, DC.- The Dominican Republic is strengthening its position as a biomedical hub for the Americas, participating in a panel on nearshoring and the biomedical industry at the seventh edition of “Dominicans On The Hill” in Washington, D.C. A delegation from the Biomedical Trade Mission, led by Leandro Villanueva from the General Directorate of Food, Medicines, and Health Products (Digemaps), emphasized the country’s commitment to innovation in the biomedical sector.

The delegation, supported by the Dominican Embassy in Washington, engaged with U.S. leaders from the public, private, and academic sectors, establishing key connections for investment and nearshoring opportunities in the health sector. The visit also featured discussions with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), where potential collaborations were explored, including support for a biomedical logistics hub and integration of the initiative into the Summit of the Americas agenda. The possibility of partnering with IDB Labs to develop the country’s biomedical ecosystem was also explored.
