The Ministry of Public Health reaffirmed its commitment to preventing sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unplanned pregnancies. The commitment was expressed through the promotion of responsible condom use as a key tool for sexual and reproductive health. Dr. Tamy Santana, in charge of the Maternal and Child Program, said that various social mobilization actions are being implemented through the Provincial Health Directorates (DPS). These include the free distribution of condoms in collaboration with community organizations and local leaders.
“These initiatives are not limited only to the commemoration of International Condom Day. Throughout 2025, thousands of male and female condoms will be distributed throughout the country.”
In addition, Santana said educational activities will be carried out in different communities to improve access and knowledge about protection methods. In 2024, the Ministry of Health distributed five million male and nine thousand female condoms, evidencing its commitment to public health. Condom use is one of the most effective measures to prevent STIs and unplanned pregnancies. Our goal is to ensure that these methods are available in all public health centers free of charge,” Santana stressed.
The commemoration of International Condom Day seeks to raise awareness among the population about the importance of proper and constant condom use, promoting a healthy and responsible sex life. There is a need to increase public policies for the prevention of unwanted pregnancies, as well as for avoiding sexually transmitted infections.
