Police stolen drugs scandal: Vehicle, RD$427K ‘recovered’ so far

Santo Domingo.- One vehicle and RD$427,000 in cash have been recovered thus far, money from the sale of drugs stolen from the Police Narcotics Div. (Dican), as part of the investigation by a joint committee formed by several Assistant DAs and senior police officials.

A source close to the investigation quoted by elnacional.com.do revealed that the first phase of the probe concluded with the interrogation of junior officers and continue throughout the rest of Friday, with the suspended head of Dican, Col. Carlos Fernández, and its Operations chief identified only as "Col. Paulino."

"The first phase of the interrogations concluded with the return of a car return and 427,000 pesos by a junior officer and enterd into the second phase today, which has to do with the senior officers," the source said.

Police chief of Manuel Castro had acknowledged the case on Monday, when he asked Justice minister Francisco Dominguez to form a committee with several assistant DAs, and a commitment to severely punish those guilty.
