Dominicans celebrate “Reyes” today

Santo Domingo.- Today, Monday January 5th, Dominican families celebrate "El Día de los Reyes Magos" or Three Kings Day – the feast of the Epiphany. The traditional date for this celebration is January 6th but it has been moved to Monday to create a long weekend.

This is the day when most Dominican children receive their Christmas gifts and toy stores around the country have been full of shoppers in the run up to the special celebration.

Other traditions associated with "Reyes" include leaving hay and cigars for the visiting Kings and their camels and processions like the one organized by the Fire Brigade through the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo.
