Cambridge, Massachusetts.- The Dominican Republic celebrated a major academic achievement at the prestigious Harvard Speech and Debate Tournament, held from February 15 to 17. In the “Junior Varsity International” category, Mia Alejandra Rodríguez Santos and Ana Margarita Sabillón Méndez from Saint George School secured first place by unanimous decision, showcasing the country’s talent and academic excellence.
Beyond this victory, the Dominican delegation had a strong presence, with students from New Horizons, ABC, and Carol Morgan Schools advancing to the quarterfinals. Their performance underscored the high level of preparation and commitment among Dominican students in international debate competitions.
The Harvard National High School Forensics Competition, the largest public speaking and debate event in the U.S., brings together over 5,000 students annually. The Dominican delegation’s success this year reaffirms the country’s growing presence in world-class academic settings, highlighting the impact of debate education on young leaders’ development.
