Filming begins on Marileidy, the biopic of Dominican sprinter

The production company Orgullo de Quisqueya, led by journalist Jessica Hasbun and producer Kelvin Liria, has begun filming Marileidy, a film depicting the journey of Dominican track star Marileidy Paulino. Directed by renowned filmmaker Tito Rodríguez and written by Junior Rosario, the movie will showcase Paulino’s perseverance, struggles, and triumphs.

Filming is taking place across the Dominican Republic and abroad, with cinematography led by Oliver Mota SDC. The project, inspired by the Quisqueyanos Valientes documentary series, has been in development since 2021 and is now becoming a reality with support from the Film Law.

The film tells the story of Paulino’s rise from her humble beginnings in Don Gregorio, Nizao, balancing school and selling fish, to excelling in handball before discovering her true calling in athletics. Her journey from adversity to global recognition is a testament to resilience and national pride, making her an icon of Dominican sports.
