Haiti.- According to Le Nouvelliste, on March 7-8, 2025, explosive drones were reportedly deployed in Delmas 6, Wharf Jérémie, and Bel-Air, killing 20 and injuring over 30, as stated by Pierre Espérance, director of the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights (RNDDH).” Among the injured were members of the “Viv Ansanm” gang, led by Jimmy Chérizier, alias “Barbecue.” This tactic had also been used on March 1-2 in Delmas 6 and Village de Dieu, though authorities have yet to officially confirm it.
The National Police acknowledged operations in Delmas 6 on March 1, stating that specialized units had been deployed against gang strongholds, resulting in multiple casualties among criminals. Espérance supported the initiative but stressed the need for better coordination between law enforcement, the government, and international forces. He warned against political interference in security operations, citing concerns about Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé’s involvement.
Amid these efforts, tensions persist within Haiti’s leadership. Some officials advocate replacing police chief Rameau Normil, while others argue he is not the issue. Espérance emphasized the need for proper resources for law enforcement instead of creating new intelligence agencies. He suggested reallocating government funds to strengthen existing security units, ensuring a more effective response to the country’s worsening crisis.
