Venezuelan woman killed by apparent hitman in Santiago

National Police investigates a shooting attack in Santiago that left a woman dead and a man wounded.

-One person was taken away for investigation.

Santiago de los Caballeros, 22 March 2025 — The National Police is investigating the circumstances in which a woman died and a man was wounded after being shot at while they were traveling in a vehicle in the Las Charcas sector, municipality of Sabana Iglesia.

The victims were identified as Deni José Caraballo Caldero, who is receiving medical attention in stable condition, and María Issamal Villasmil Atencio, of Venezuelan nationality, who died while being treated at a health center.

The attack occurred when an individual, still unidentified, intercepted the vehicle in which they were traveling and shot at them without saying a word. At the scene, the Forensic Police collected eleven 9mm caliber casings and took into custody the Mercedes-Benz car, model E300, black, in which the victims were traveling.

The preliminary report indicates that no belongings were taken from the victims. However, one person was taken into custody for investigation as part of the investigation process.

The National Police continues to investigate further and will provide additional details as the investigation progresses.
