CND backs INTRANT’s anti-doping tests for road safety

Santo Domingo.- The National Drug Council (CND), led by sociologist Alejandro de Jesús Abreu, has expressed full support for the anti-doping testing operations launched by the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (INTRANT). These surprise tests, which began on March 24, 2025, at the bus terminal on kilometer 9 of the Duarte Highway, targeted over 40 drivers to ensure they were not under the influence of psychoactive substances.

Abreu emphasized that these efforts align with Law 50-88 on Drugs and Controlled Substances and Law 63-17 on Mobility and Road Safety, which grants INTRANT the authority to conduct random alcohol and toxicology tests. He stressed that such measures are essential to preventing fatal accidents and fostering a culture of responsibility among drivers.

The CND president urged drivers to remain substance-free while operating vehicles and to cooperate with authorities during these inspections. He reaffirmed the council’s commitment to public safety, stating that these actions support President Luis Abinader’s vision for a healthier and more secure Dominican Republic.
