Agency names new officials in heels of 950k cocaine theft

Santo Domingo.- The National Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) on Monday announced changes of senior officials, two days after National Police Narcotics Div. director Carlos Fernandez was sent to one-year pretrial detention in the case of the stolen 950k of cocaine.

Antinarcotics agency director Julio Souffront named Braulio de la Rosa as new commander of the Joint Information and Coordination Center (CICC), Hidalgo Tous, director of Internal Affairs and William Acevedo, in Human Resources.

New directors were also named in other regions.

The changes come after recent scandals including in Hato Mayor (east) where admitted drug pusher Crisania Soriano said police and DNCD officials shakedown dealers, who must pay as much as 8,000 pesos each week.
