President Abinader seeks negotiations with U.S. over tariffs

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader announced that the Dominican government will initiate negotiations with the United States to address the 10% tariff imposed by President Donald Trump. He expressed hope that the free trade agreement between both countries will be respected during these talks.

Abinader emphasized that the government has strong relations with the U.S. and has already begun discussions. While the tariff imposed on the Dominican Republic is lower compared to other countries, the government remains committed to seeking its modification.

The president reassured the public that the country’s exports will not be negatively affected by the tariff, and he believes that exports could even increase. He further stated that the government will continue to review the situation and reevaluate the tariffs in light of the agreements in place.
