Rebels demand US$200,000 for Dominican kidnapped in Haiti

Dajabon, DR.– Four people, some of them Dominican traders, were kidnapped by criminals who were riding on two motorcycles from Cap Haitien to Dajabon, as reported by elnuevodiario.com.do.

According to police reports quoted by the outlet, the kidnappers demanded a ransom payment of US$200,000 for the release of Starling Alvarez Nuñez (Nabu), 22, a resident of Dajabon.

Police said three of the hostages were released, including Deogracia Nuñez (Siso), but her son is being retained. Apparently, the kidnappers belong to armed and masked rebel groups operating in the north of Haiti.

The incident occurred Tuesday at three in the morning, eight kilometers from the exit of Cap Haitien.
