Santo Domingo — On Friday, April 4, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau spoke with Dominican Republic Foreign Minister Roberto Alvarez to reaffirm the two countries’ cooperation ties.
During the dialogue, Landau highlighted the Dominican Republic’s efforts to control illegal immigration, a crucial issue on the bilateral agenda, and reiterated the United States’ commitment to collaborate closely on this matter.
In this regard, the undersecretary and the foreign minister discussed international initiatives to promote stability in Haiti, particularly in the Multinational Security Support Mission framework, which seeks to ensure a secure and peaceful environment in the neighboring country.
Summit of the Americas
A key point of the conversation was the planning for the Tenth Summit of the Americas, to be held in December in the Dominican Republic.
Landau underscored the importance of the CEO Summit as a strategic platform to encourage new investment in the region.
