Santo Domingo.- Santiago Matías, popularly known as Alofoke, announced on Monday night the suspension of the march to Friusa that was scheduled for April 27. The decision came in direct response to the 15 immigration measures unveiled by President Luis Abinader during a national address on Sunday evening.
During a live broadcast on his YouTube channel, Matías expressed concerns about the current political climate and the potential risks involved in proceeding with the march. “What am I going to look for in Friusa? I’m going to get a problem,” he remarked, sharing the space with veteran journalist Dr. Julio Hazim.
Matías emphasized that his priority is to promote peace and avoid confrontation amid heightened tensions following the government’s toughened stance on immigration, particularly concerning undocumented migrants. He also stated that while he remains committed to defending the rights of marginalized communities, the present moment calls for caution and reflection.
The planned march had sparked significant public attention, especially in the context of growing debate around immigration policy and social inclusion in the Dominican Republic.
