The Director of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) toured several beaches and resorts in the country on Good Friday as part of Operation Easter Week 2025, verifying security and compliance with preventive measures amid unusually low visitor attendance.
Supervision and security measures
During his tour, the director inspected the presence of first aid organizations, the control of the sale of alcoholic beverages and the implementation of norms to guarantee the safety of bathers.
Additionally, he verified the application of the measure to leave the water at beaches such as Boca Chica, Guayacanes, and Juan Dolio, scheduled for 5:30 and 6:00 p.m., a preventive strategy that has been maintained in previous years to reduce incidents.
Low affluence attributed to national mourning
Vendors in the area expressed concern about the unusual decrease in tourists this year, attributing it to the national mourning for the tragedy that occurred at the Jet Set.
“This year has been different, people have not come as before. The sadness over what happened has influenced the decision of many families to stay at home,” commented a Boca Chica merchant.
Balance of the operation
The COE reported that, as of this Good Friday afternoon, five deaths have been registered, four of them due to traffic accidents and one due to drowning. There have also been 25 accidents, affecting 26 people.
Authorities have reiterated the call to the population to exercise prudence and responsibility during the remainder of the Holy Week holiday.
