In response to the collapse of the Jet Set nightclub, which highlighted the structural fragility of public and private spaces, the Center for Studies and Research for Municipal Development (Ceindem) has proposed creating a network to oversee construction projects. The aim is to prevent future tragedies and ensure all Dominicans’ safety and peace of mind.
Lawyer Steven Valdera explained that the initiative consists of monitoring, documenting, and enforcing compliance with safety, legality, and maintenance standards in cultural, community, and recreational infrastructure.
To this end, it provides a team of architects, structural and civil engineers, and building specialists responsible for detecting signs of risk in roofs, columns, walls, and support systems. As part of the process, the technicians will report on each space visited and escalate cases to the appropriate authorities.
The center also made available a network of lawyers who will provide free legal advice to the families of the victims and those affected by the Jet Set tragedy.
