Police reform receives 3,046 additional officers

Yesterday, the government marked a significant milestone in its ‘Plan 20,000’ initiative, a comprehensive strategy to bolster public safety. As part of this plan, 3,046 new officers were sworn in, with Vice President Raquel Peña leading the graduation ceremony.

The 3,046 new officers, a diverse group, have been strategically assigned to various areas of the institution, including preventive services, Digesett, Politur, Dicrim, Intelligence, and Internal Affairs. This comprehensive approach ensures that all aspects of public safety are being addressed. During the swearing-in ceremony at the Carlos (Teo) Cruz Coliseum, Vice President Peña reaffirmed her commitment to the ongoing police reform, a testament to the government’s dedication to national security and peace for Dominicans.

She said that through educational reform, more than 4,000 applicants are currently in training, and more than 1,000 people have graduated as part of a generation we have called “the new police.”

For her part, Faride Raful, Minister of the Interior and Police, congratulated the graduates for their work during their training and the commission for the work carried out, which will continue so that future classes can meet the objectives of the reform.

She recalled that the reform is divided into three areas: education, which is fundamental to changing the present and the future; operational and technological reform; and administrative and financial reform.

Ramón Antonio Guzmán Peralta, Director General of the National Police, and General Luis Ernesto García Hernández, Commissioner for the Reform, Modernization, and Transformation of the PN, also participated in the meeting. In addition, Elena Viyella, member of the Executive Commission for Police Reform; Mu Kien Adriana Sang, president of the Board of Directors and Coordinator of the Educational Modernization and Development Unit; and the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, among others, were also present.
