Cabarete Tango: a strategy to redefine Puerto Plata’s tourism

Punta Cana.- At DATE 2025, Dominican-Argentine businessman Leonardo Wehe introduced a new vision for Cabarete, Puerto Plata, aiming to transform the destination into the Caribbean’s premier hub for luxury, culture, nature, and sports through his company, Cabarete Tango.

Wehe’s strategy centers on three pillars: nature and water sports as a lifestyle, investment in luxury infrastructure that honors local identity, and hosting world-class cultural events. He emphasized Cabarete’s unique appeal, saying, “The world seeks authenticity, and Cabarete delivers—from surf and art to jazz and community warmth—all now integrated into a luxury experience unlike any other in the Caribbean.”

Several projects are already underway:

  • Eden Cabarete: High-end condos overlooking the bay, designed by Byron Rodríguez, already breaking sales records.

  • ICON Cabarete: A boutique oceanfront development redefining upscale living.

  • Cabarete Country Club: A 9-hole lighted golf course with over 350 residences and extensive amenities.

  • Villa Taina Hotel: A refreshed classic destination featuring a designer boutique, the Serenade beachfront restaurant, and a modern water sports club.

Additionally, the Cabarete Jazz Festival 2025 is confirmed for June 20–21, promising an extraordinary beachfront event with top-tier local and international artists.
