Princess Leonor arrives in Santo Domingo aboard Spanish Navy training ship

Santo Domingo.- The Spanish Navy’s training ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano arrived in Santo Domingo this Monday, carrying Princess Leonor, heir to the Spanish throne, as part of its 17th training cruise. The vessel will remain in the Dominican capital until Saturday.

The ship docked at the Punta Torrecilla pier just before 10:00 a.m. local time, where 76 midshipmen, including Princess Leonor, saluted from the deck. The Dominican Navy band and the ship’s musicians performed national songs in a ceremonial welcome.

Under the command of Captain Luis Carreras-Presas do Campo, Juan Sebastián de Elcano is on the final stretch of its American tour. After departing from Santo Domingo, it will head to New York before returning to Spain in June, with an expected arrival in July.
