Santo Domingo.- The Senate of the Dominican Republic has approved a bill declaring La Romana an ecotourism province, an initiative led by Senator Eduard Espiritusanto. The legislation seeks to boost alternative tourism focused on economic sustainability, social equity, cultural enrichment, and environmental protection across the region.
With this new status, La Romana will benefit from an annual RD$50 million Ecotourism Development Fund to support projects that foster both environmental and economic progress. These initiatives will be overseen by the newly created La Romana Ecotourism Development Council, an autonomous body tasked with establishing public policy and promoting sustainable investment throughout the province.
