Dominican Tourism minister: tourism growth in 2014 was extraordinary

Santo Domingo.– Tourism minister Francisco Javier Garcia said that the growth experienced by the Dominican tourism industry in 2014 was extraordinary, and predicted that 2015 will be a much better year, with an average growth of over 10 percent and six million visitors.

According to Garcia, this achievement is the result of the joint efforts of both the public and private sectors. "Tourism reached record levels in nearly 12 months in 2014 compared with the same period in 2013," he said.

The minister recalled that in the year that just ended hotels spent more than $500 million dollars in agricultural products. He said there was a growth of 9.3% in November compared with the same month in 2013, reaching 33,293 additional visitors, which indicates that in that month the Dominican Republic received a total of 392,283 tourists.

Garcia noted that from January to November 2014, the country received 4,607,047 visitors, which represents an increase of 407,296 visitors, for a 7.7% growth.
