President Abinader and Tourism Minister Collado inaugurate Haina seafront

Haina, DR.- President Luis Abinader and Tourism Minister David Collado officially opened the reconstructed 400-meter Malecón of Playa Gringo in Bajo de Haina on Sunday. Built at a cost of RD$107,845,126 by the Committee for Tourist Zone Infrastructure (CEIZTUR), the project transforms 11,480 m² of coastline into a vibrant linear park with 6,780 m² of built structures and a 330-meter pedestrian promenade.

The new seafront features extensive landscaping, asphalted roadway, 1,885 m² of sidewalks, a security booth, restrooms and modern lighting. It divides into two main zones: a 3,430 m² recreational plaza with a children’s play area, pergolas, a basketball court and parking for 40 cars and 23 motorcycles; and a 2,922 m² leisure plaza housing eight vendor stalls, restroom modules, parking for 14 vehicles and a 1,000 m² events space.

President Abinader hailed the Malecón as a boon for local families and promised further investments—including an INFOTEP extension, an ITLA campus, a new park, an amphitheater and a cable car set to open in early 2027—that will “improve residents’ quality of life.” Minister Collado called the seafront “a game-changer for Haina” and credited the Open Skies Agreement for facilitating greater tourism infrastructure.

The Ministry of Tourism has now delivered four major projects in San Cristóbal since 2022, totaling RD$325,937,665. Among those attending the inauguration were Senator Gustavo Lara, Chamber of Deputies President Alfredo Pacheco, Governor Pura Casilla, Mayor Osvaldo Rodríguez and cluster leader William Alcántara.
