I´ll defend surprise visits ´tooth and nail,´ Medina warns

Puerto Plata,Dominican Republic.- President Danilo Medina on Sunday warned he´ll defend"tooth and nail" his unannounced visits made since taking office,claiming a positive impact on the rural poor.

Speaking at VillaIsabela, northern Puerto Plata province, Medina said his surprise visits leadto better living conditions of poor people in the Dominican countryside.

Visibly emotional,Medina said he will do so because there are “insensitive” people, which he didn’tidentify, who want the program to vanish and who don’t care about the poorliving in rural areas. "Every week I see hope in the eyes of the poor inthe visits I make to communities, I will defend the program tooth and nail."

The chief executive authorizedfunding of RD$40 million for the North Region Livestock Farmers Federation toexecute the Milk Competitiveness program, which will benefit 2,454 small andmedium dairy farms.
