Dengue epidemic looms over country, official warns

Santo Domingo.- Thedeputy director for infectious diseases of the Robert Reid Cabral Children’sHospital on Sunday warned of the possibility that the country is undergoing a dengueepidemic, as the number of cases of people infected rise daily.

Clemente Terrero saidthe dengue epidemic isn’t a problem exclusive to the region or to the DominicanRepublic, since he asserts it has surged in the Americas.

Interviewed on AntenaLatina, Channel 7, the official said a high infection rate is affecting variousareas of the country “and that´s why we´re working hard to deal with theproblem.”
