Ruling PLD party agents pen reporters ´like cattle´

Santo Domingo.- Securityagents of Dominican Republic’s ruling PLD party on Monday night kept reporterspenned up with metal barriers and at the meeting of its top echelon the PoliticalCommittee, to prevent the journalists from interviewing its members.

According tojournalist Marino Zapete, the group of reporters “was penned in a sort ofcorral like cattle,” and called the PLD´s treatment of the press a “regretfulshame.”

PLD press spokesman HectorOlivo sought to distance the organization from the incident, affirming that itwas the security agent´s decision to prevent the reporters from converging onthe officials when entering or leaving the meeting.

PLD general secretaryReinaldo Pared said among the the topics of the meeting which began at 7:15 pm with30 of the Committees´ 35 members present figured the rules to elect thecandidates for the next election, and the process for the electoral alliances.
