Dominican Republic protest of govt. corruption turns violent

Santo Domingo.- Antiriotpolice on Wednesday beat back with batons a group of protesters at the State WorksSupervisory Engineers Office (OISOE) next to the National Palace, where dozensof demonstrators demand a halt to the seemingly unchecked government corruption.

The protesters triedto enter by force the OISOE headquarters on the corner of Garcia Delgado streets,prompting the police to beat them with batons.

The call to protest, madeby the Citizen Power, Zero Impunity Collective, the Coalition for a Decent Education,among other organizations, which formed a human chain seeking an end toimpunity and for president Danilo Medina to dissolve OISOE, a scandal-riddled agency.
