Gildan Activewear gets Dow Jones´ sustainability kudos

Santo Domingo.-Gildan Activewear recently announced its inclusion in the Dow Jones World SustainabilityIndex (DJSI World) for the third consecutive year, making it the only US basedcompany in the Textiles, Apparel and Luxury Goods industry in the globalranking.

"We´re pleasedto be included once again in the World Dow Jones Sustainability Index,"said Glenn Chamandy, president and CEO. "We´re very proud of thisachievement and we share the recognition with our 42,000 employees and all ourstakeholders worldwide.”

The executive said asa leading vertically integrated manufacturer of basic apparel for the entirefamily, “we recognize that our strong commitment to leading practices ofcorporate social responsibility and a culture of continuous improvement andinvestment in technology are equally essential to our success.”

“Inclusion in the DJSIWorld Index as the only American company in our industry offers us additionalvalidation that Gildan is genuinely concentrated on leading the way. We remaincommitted to these efforts because we recognize that they are an essential partof our successful future," he said.

In a statement, Chamandysaid the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes were launched in 1999 as the firstglobal sustainability benchmarks.
