Official says diagnostic errors caused 95% of dengue deaths

Santo Domingo.- Public Healthminister Altagracia Guzman on Tuesday saidthe country has 11,359 suspected cases of dengue, and confirmed the number of reporteddeaths at 116 thus far this year, not 94 as her department had reported.

She said of 78 dengue fatalities,25 were discarded and 16 unconfirmed because there was no data provided.

The official said the25 deaths that were discarded as being dengue, were caused by the death of themother, leptospirosis, malaria, pneumonia, diabetes, pneumonia, among others.

Guzman said 95% of thedeaths was the result of diagnostic errors and the mishandling of liquids.
