Authorities seize 247 packages of drugs, arrest five people

Santo Domingo.– National Drug Control Department (DNCD) agents seized 247 packages of drugs in raids at Punta Esmeralda beach in Miches (north) and at the Las Americas International Airport (AILA) in Santo Domingo.

DNCD spokesman Dario Medrano said that five people were arrested in an operation that included the Dominican Navy and Air Force and the National Investigations Dept. (DNI).

According to Medrano, the 212 packages seized in Miches were to be sent to Puerto Rico by an international drug trafficking ring, while the remaining 35 packages were found at the AILA in two suitcases belonging to a 25-year-old Venezuelan man who arrived in the country on a flight from Maracaibo.

The DNCD said the seized drug was taken to Forensics (INACIF) for confirmation.
