US Envoy says have no fear, Uber is here

Santo Domingo.- The USEmbassy on Friday congratulated the Uber application, a passenger-shared rideservice based on a software application, for its "successful launch of operationsin Santo Domingo.”

Uber, which beganoperations in 2009 in San Francisco, now operates in more than 100 US cities and64 countries including Central and South America, says the US Embassy in astatement.

US ambassador JamesBrewster said the Embassy generally urges US citizens to remain alert whenusing any public transport. “However, there have been no instructions to avoidthe use of Uber services, as some media reported.”

“In fact, theambassador of the United States is a frequent user of Uber on his trips to theUnited States and other countries,” it said.
